Special Education

• Referral (one and done *for most cases)
• Evaluation (for first IEP*)/Revaluation (the team will perform a revaluation every three years*)
• Eligibility (what is the child's disability)
• Development and Approval of IEP (see below)
• Progress monitoring (goals and objectives)
• Repeat steps four and five every year and steps two through five every three years

• Present Levels of Performance (where your child is currently performing)
• Consideration of Special Factors (deaf/blind, communication needs, special transportation, etc.)
• Goals/Objectives (individualized goals that will promote growth in your child)
• Accommodations/Modifications (what your child needs to be successful)
• Extended School Year (based on student needs should they attend summer school)
• Assessments (state and district assessments or alternative assessments)
• Services (based on your child's needs, specific services will be provided)
• Least Restrictive Environment (what setting is best for your child to grow and meet annual goals)

EEOs were developed for a very small and specific group of students, those who have been identified with a significant cognitive disability. EEOs are connected to grade-level standards and hold students with significant cognitive disabilities to high expectations. 

Colorado Department of Education_EEO

The Colorado Alternate Assessment (CoAlt), is the alternate assessment created by the Colorado Department of Education. Students (3rd - 5th) who qualify for EEOs will be assessed with the CoAlt in March and April. This assessment is a great tool for educators to see where students are currently performing.
